More JARVIS!!!!

Monday, April 09, 2007

I'm not a fan of Beth Ditto nor her band (The Gossip). Her voice kinda makes me wish I was born deaf, but Jarvis Cocker is so fucking cool that it almost doesn't matter. I want those glasses. If you buy them for me I won't hate you.

Akron/Family

It was hard for me to choose just two tracks off of Akron/Families '05 self titled full length debut, so I narrowed my choices down to three... here's to hums below the surface, quite storms, and nastalgic rumblings.

Bob Dylan - "Mama, You've Been On My Mind"

Every once in a while I hear a song that distills a feeling... when every word rings of truth, or expresses something in a way I wish I could. Almost as if the artist plucked it from my head and penned it in a song... This tune is on The Bootleg Series, Vols. 1-3 : Rare And Unreleased, 1961-1991 three disk box set. In my opinion this song represents Dylan at his best.

Mojave 3 Bootlegs - Black Sessions

I found this collection of live songs at the official Mojave 3 website. There are several live bootlegs and other rarities in the audio/video section... Black Sessions is Mojave 3's first live show (as you'll hear in the beginning of "Sarah") recorded for French radio. Candle Song 3, After All and Mercy are my particular favorites. Take your time with these songs; maybe dim the lights, grab a glass of your favorite beverage (alcholic or non - which ever you prefer), simmer down and enjoy.

Listen:
1. Sarah
2. Candle Song 3
3. Where Is The Love
4. Love Songs on The Radio
5. Tomorrow's Taken
6. You're Beautiful
7. Mercy
8. After All

The Sultans - Swami California Field Trip

Good news for John Reis fans who live on the Gold Coast. The Sultans (with Mario Rubalcaba on drums) along with The Marked Men, and The Heartaches are hitting the road to bring their rock n' roll frenzy to the falllowing cities:

THURSDAY JANUARY 5TH
San Diego - The Casbah

FRIDAY JANUARY 6TH
Glendale - The Scene

SATURDAY JANUARY 7TH
San Francisco - The Parkside

SUNDAY JANUARY 8TH
Long Beach - Alex's Bar

A limited 7 inch featuring an exclusive song from each band will be sold at the shows. That's pretty fucking rad if you ask me. If you want to be the cool kid on your block you'll scoop one up, or you can be a peater puffer and wait for it to sell on ebay. Check out the tour page here. Oh... an extra special treat for those who live in San Francisco. John Reis, The Swami himself, will be the house DJ that night at The Parkside.

To wet your palet I'm posting a couple Sultans songs from 2000's Ghost Ships. Crank it or spank it!
